It is a linen cover for a 'minderi'(a kind of low oriental sofa) with a dense, silk and colourful embroidered decoration, subjected to the so-called "fear of void", a trend that characterizes traditional embroidery (the tendency not to leave empty space in the embroidery). This one was purchased by the internationally renowned collector, Joseph Soustiel in 1964. J. Soustiel (1904-1990) continued the tradition of the collection of Oriental and Middle Eastern objects of his grandfather Moise Soustiel and founder of the Maison Soustiel (1883-2004) in France. Maison Soustiel was one of the oldest galleries in Paris specializing in Islamic and Oriental art.
